Peace and relaxation are key for wellbeing, health, and indeed performance. Natural medicine offers many benefits over more modern approaches, and thus herbs that help you relax are herbs that help you live and dream. With stress, angst, and rumination abound, taking the time and consideration to support your relaxation is fundamental, and reciprocative to a fulfilling, tranquil day-to-day.
These herbs are distinct from Herbs For Sleep, in that they promote or induce relaxation without distinctly inspiring sleep, allowing you to take them during the day without drowsiness or impaired performance. These are similar to L-theanine and taurine, as compared to say the effects of magnesium which are often too fatiguing.
These relaxing herbs can also be combined with caffeine or supplements for focus and motivation like Rhodiola Rosea, adding clarity and grounding which can synergize with these for greater focus and thinking. This is also similar to the classic L-theanine and caffeine combination or stack.
Incorporating them into your lifestyle and a few days of the week as needed, you can help promote peace and a rhythm of flow, that provides resistance against stress, anxiety, and depression. This also helps promote inspiration, clarity, and serenity.
“How you fill each day is how you fill your life.”
It should be noted that if you are in need of sleep or are sleep deprived and already fatigued, these herbs can still make you drowsy by relaxing that want to stay awake.
Herbs For Relaxation:
• Lemon Balm
• Holy Basil (Tulsi)
• Saffron
• American Ginseng
These herbs can be taken as capsules or extracts, as well as herbal teas. Saffron is typically taken as an extract in a capsule than a tea.
Lemon Balm is one of my favourite herbs, and grows easily and widely similar to mint, making it an essentially free herbal supplement if you have a large yard or garden. It tastes very similar to lemon, and makes a very fulfilling and soothing tea with just hot water or steeped in cold water overnight. Its also added to lemonade to add an extra angle of citrus flavour and minty or floral depth, and is likely to provide an extra essence of relaxation for breezy summer days.
Unlike Panax Ginseng or Korean Red Ginseng, American Ginseng (Panax Quinquefolius) is much more relaxing and calming than stimulating, energizing, or motivating. This makes it very suited for keep stress down all day, or taking in the evenings and nights to wind down.
